By Shannon Huang, Development & Communications Manager

On September 16, Leah Sklar and her family welcomed us into her home so we could come together again to celebrate Marty and his legacy as a mentor.

Honoring Marty Sklar (1934-2017)

By Diane Brigham, Executive Director

We at Ryman Arts are mourning the passing of our co-founder, mentor, and visionary who inspired a generation of young artists at Ryman Arts and beyond. Marty, along with his wife Leah, friends Anne and “Buzz” Price, Walt Disney’s daughter Sharon Disney Lund, and Herb Ryman’s sister Lucille Ryman-Carroll founded Ryman Arts 27 years ago. Marty was our guiding force since the beginning and served as President for many years.

Why I Teach

By Manny Cosentino, Ryman Arts Faculty Member

Some years ago La Monte Westmoreland invited me to make a guest artist presentation for the advanced panting class he was teaching at Ryman Arts. I was so honored and well received by his class as I made that presentation. Shortly thereafter I began to teach advanced painting for Ryman Arts (2004).
