Crafting Connections through Art Outings with Ryman Arts

By Mari Nguyen (Ryman '11), Alumni Engagement Specialist

Art Outings with Ryman Arts invites alumni, students, and families to explore the rich cultural landscape of Southern California. These free, seasonal art events, allow our community to explore art and culture in an engaging, hands-on way that we hope will inspire each individual to connect with one another and ignite their creativity and curiosity.

Director of Education Rebecca Tuynman shared, “[Alumni Engagement Specialist] Mari Nguyen and I wanted to give students, alumni, and their families more chances to meet each other and explore art in a casual setting. Art Outings with Ryman Arts was created with the intention of being an ongoing event series to always give our community future Outings to look forward to.”

Our first Art Outings at Craft Contemporary

Our inaugural Art Outings was at Craft Contemporary this summer! Artists Oscar Magallanes (Ryman ’99) and Aaron D. Estrada (Ryman ‘13), members of the 3B Collective and Ryman Arts alumni, walked us through their exhibition 3B Collective: Highway Hypnosis. We had such a blast learning about their creative process and insights into their work.

"It was truly a pleasure to share the Highway Hypnosis exhibition with the Ryman Arts students, alumni, and their families. Aaron and I were happy to see everyone engaged and enthusiastic. Hearing that the students and their families had a great experience means a lot to us,” remarked Oscar.

Seeing our students and alumni connecting with one another, while also examining and sharing their thoughts on the exhibit was such a delight! We could not imagine a better first visit than at Craft Contemporary, whose Executive Director is alumnus Rody Lopez (Ryman ’05)!

This fall, we are excited to present our next Art Outings on Sunday, October 12! We will be visiting alumnus Uber Lopez Enamorado’s (Ryman ’14) exhibition Blue Hues at the John Doe Gallery, where Uber will be leading an exclusive artist walkthrough!
